We are getting more opportunities to ride and I, for one, took advantage of 2 last week.
The first ride was on Friday to Welcome Home several crew members of mine sweepers that have been deployed for 9 months. Frenchie, Kevin and several PGR members met by the airport at 0830. It seems that these are always delayed and this was again the case for this mission. The delay gave us time to visit the brand new USO facility at San Diego Airport and I encourage each of you to stop in and tour this wonderful facility. Additionally, if you have the time, you should consider volunteering to work a few shifts at one of the 2 San Diego USO facilities. Great opportunity that will warm your heart. On Sunday, Chris “Wildhog” Hughes and I rode down to the “Spirit of 45 Day” Celebration at the new Veterans Museum and Memorial Center on the grounds of the Naval Regional Medical Center, San Diego. Chris and I got to meet a large number of WWII Veterans, as well as many active duty military in attendance. We were the only Legion Riders in attendance and we got a lot of attention! We ended up getting recruited to supervise the Sea Cadets and the Boy Scouts in the unfurling of a HUGE 30’x60′ American Flag. We were very honored to be chosen for this duty.
I sure hope that we see more of the Riders on these upcoming rides. Chris is doing a great job and I know we all want to ride more . . . right? Check the column to the right and come out and RIDE!
